poor man's room air cleaner
I have not owned this fan/filter long enough to judge its effectiveness in cleaning the air. I will try to update on this at a later time. This fan is solidly built which accounts for it being so pricey for a box fan. On the other hand it is very cost effective if compared to other room air cleaners which can cost hundreds of dollars-not to mention the high cost of replacement filters for the more expensive room air filters on the market. This neat little invention takes a standard 20x20x1 furnace filter. I have ordered some MERV 13 filters from another company to put it through its paces.
My one gripe with this fan is the noise level. On the lowest setting, it is not whisper quiet as stated on the outside of the box it came in, but I still find it tolerable. The two higher speeds are just plain noisy. It appears to me that they could improve on this fault with a redesign of the fan blades. Hope this helps anyone considering buying this item.
